Hi All

Need a new gas strut for bonnet. Currently only one fitted.

Which one do I need? Seen locking and non locking and with/without bonnet insulation.

I'm presuming locking is what I need. But how many. Do both struts lock? Or just one?

I assume the bonnet insulation means the pad on underside of the bonnet itself?

It's a 98 4.6 vouge se. New to me.

Cheers
Al

Thanks for the reply. Hmmm might need 2 new ones then.

If you have one that works why do you need two? They don't seem to be handed, each will fit at either side as far as i can see. The locking strut is fitted to the N/S on my car i suppose it could go at either side. Think one only needs to lock so if a strut fails whilst you are leaning into the engine bay the bonnet doesn't hit you on the noggin.

Well I only have one on the N/s at the moment and it doesn't lock. And certainly wouldn't stop or slowyl the bonnet dropping. So presume it's knackered and I'll need a locking one. And a non locking one.

One strut even in good condition won't hold the bonnet up, you need two to do that. The locking one is just a safety feature. Take it off a check it for resistance should be very difficult to collapse. If it isn't you do need two new ones.
