Bloody wiring

Hi I need help. I have a 1987 ninety 19j with 200tdi bulkhead wiring loom:
1st. When I connect the battery a relay turns on and the dash lights come on. Is that right?

2nd. What order is the ignition barrel suppose to be wired. There's a brown, white, white/red and white/orange wires. What order should they be.

If you have a 3 position switch:
Brown - Main power in
White / Orange - Aux (first position)
White - Ignition live (second position)
White / Red - starter (third position)

A bit of a guess but if you have 4 position switch (one position for glowplugs) then the starter wire may be in the fourth position (with the third unconnected if you don't have manual glowplugs)

Right hand side of the steering wheel, below the heater (HAH!!) controls is a row of three switches, one turns dash lights on and interior light on, maybe this is on and just needs turning off?

Actually the switches are just below the dash lights ...
