Bloody useful tailgate fix

Your posts would definitely suggest that, but then yours has a good owner ;). Mine is a bit of a rescue dog with the emphasis on "dog." Not as bad as it could be but it's thrown pretty much every gremlin in the book my way. Great to look at but badly abused under the bonnet :(. But I'm seeing to all that now.

Why thank you kind sir :)

had it's moments but she's basically a good un (touch wood)

slowly working my way through the faults, the drop links are banging (for about a year) and the rear front diff mount needs changing ( had it for 6 months i'll get round to changing it one day)

:D

Droplinks on mine seem to be ok so far but who knows. I did my diff mount but I may spend the pennies on the PU kit one day.

The tailgate handle seems insignificant, but it's probably the most annoying fault this car has had. Because the handle doesn't push against the switch, the bloody alarm decides to go off when it damn well pleases - even it I don't use the fob to arm it. Also, whenever I go over a bump the tailgate registers as open which causes a distracting warning on the dash as well as turning on the cab light - which is particuarly irksome during night driving.

If these springs work I will be overjoyed.

Mine was a gorgeous rescue dog! The other ones my 1.8 Freelander:D
Must admit yours even with its issues was an absolute flippin bargain

That's such a cool pic :D! Yeh it really was, once the grots have been beaten out of the system it will be an exceptional car which will go fro years and years. You're right it was a steal, hence why I'm not too peeved about the issues. Don't see many of these for much under 3k so I really lucked out.

The poly bush may be too stiff for the application and instead of breaking itself may break your diff:eek:

my alarm goes off when Taxiis drive past due to the RF, yours may just be the sensor or headlining that needs drying out.

and a dodgy sensor in the boot will account for the open warning.

Aww man you mean the springs may not solve it? Oh well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I know that Mr Diesel Do has fitted polybushes recently, it'll be interesting to see how they do.

They might solve it, mine has had one spring on it since i bought the Freebie and hasn't caused any probs

Dodgy sensor in the boot giving an open warning will most definitely set the alarm off. I'd fix that then worry about other stuff if it still goes off. It by the sound of it just thinks its being broken into!

I just installed the new springs and it was a piece of ****. Twenty mins max it took, and now the door works like a charm. Getting the interior trim panel off and on again required some care, but otherwise it was a doddle. Time will tell if this has solved the alarm and central locking issue but it's one less thing and I didn't have to buy a whole new handle!!

After having refitted most of my cylinder head today it was a nice way to finish a good day's tinkering :).

Will.
