If you have followed my posts...
old freelander
stood for anbout 4 to 5years with a dead engine (and no bolts holding it in)
I refitted a new engine and a new gearbox.
drove it around for a few days / weeks..
occasionally, the alternator will illuminate.... it doesnt have a sequence or any regularity.. .just does it as though the warning light wire is broken or "other"..
all wiring checked and clipped in position..... I'm kind of hoping the Alternator isn't goosed... but i suspect it is going down hill.
Literally within 10mins of the blinking alternator light, the HDC light came on solid... I check the switch was deactivated, but it came on regardless.
The HDC light went off when the ignition was turned off and back on again.... almost like a Microsoft WIndows restart...
I plan to steam clean the alternator, because.... I think Power Steering Fluid leaked onto it while the engine was initially pulled out...
Anyway..
I'm guessing..... steam the alternator off to start with... maybe coat it in WD40 afterwards and see what happens.
The HDC Light..... I don't know....
in fact... I don;t know if its working or not... How do I tell?
Also... the car had a new battery.... I think i need to re-sync the back window.... is there anything the HDC needs to be synced up with too???

Thanks.
Wayne.

@GrumpyGel Can't I use coffee grounds.... I don't like tea :-( - or do you have another idea for tea leaves (over here that's slang for thieves - lol)
You watch... the new (well.. low mileage) gearbox I've fitted will have a fault :-(

Are the earth's nice and clean and secure. Put a volt meter on it(alternator positive to an earth if you can) and rev the engine, (make sure nothing else is switched on) should give between 14v and 14. 7v consistently, if it drops lower than 13v, it's probably faulty.
Mike

Blasting with the steam cleaner and WD40 seems to have worked... I'm going to pull the alternator off and replace the Rectifying / Brush pack...
All lights off at the moment.
