Under my landy
Today was the fatal end of the reliable 2 1/4 petrol engine. After some serious off-roading involving lots of water and mud, the engine decided it was old enough, at 46 years old it wanted to retire.

So having poured 11 litres of oil in over the day (!) and having had to take the oil bath air filter off due to being clogged with water, i managed to limp it home over a lovely 2 and a bit hour journey, during which we had serious power issues, especially on baby hills and couldn't get above 40.

SO!!!
I think it's time i got myself a 200tdi engine, i think it's the obvious choice, i do do a lot of miles in it and it costs me a fortune in petrol

love the 200tdi but prefer it without the 't'..........gives you a lovely torquey motor thats easier to fit and it wont rip the **** out your series drive chain every time you boot it

yeh, i had every plan to remove the turbo, the landy is old and has been abused (by me at least) so the running gear / g/b are not in the best of best conditions, so i would expect a turbo would rip it to bits.

Been doing some reading on the subject tonight and watching a few on eBay. Hopefully get started soon as i'm meant to be laning again in 2 weeks!

good luck with that....should be straight forward into a 2 1/4.......just need to chop about 1 engine mount and make a custom downpipe. Plenty of info here.....just wish I'd done a bit more research before I put 1 in my 6cyl!

At £8 a litre, I reckon you should recover the cost in about 250 miles .

How much yu thinking of paying for the engine, radiator and stuff?

According to eBay a maximum of £300 should see me get everything i need, and hopefully a bit of change depending.

I do wonder why things wait till it goes very dark and cold before they break, the next few weeks of evenings are not going to be fun.

How much are you selling yours for MHM? I did ask in t'other thread but i think you missed it :)

I wonder how long the current crop of elderly donor 200 Discos are going to last.

The very newest of them are 16(?) years old now ... and most are very rusty. The average mileage on a 16-year old motor nowadays (must be getting on for 200k?) makes the engine not necessarily the sort of thing you want to spend days and ££££ transplanting into your pride and joy.

But if the doner vehicle is someones failed project to say tray back a disco, and what is left is a hidious mess then it is sold as an hidious mess rather than an ok engine, axles and tyres then their is nothing to say the engine will be f**ked.

Most of the engines around currently are about 120k

My engine has done 132K has noo oil, filters, timing belt and pump within the last month or so. The only reason my motor aint on the road is the fire service cut the roof off.
