Disco 2 Bleeding fuel filter

Hi all, just fitted new fuel filter on my td5 and now it's priming constantly and making a whining noise all the time , it's fine before and is running but wasn't making this noise before. Is there a lot of dependence on filter make as this is not a genuine part , or have I missed something?

Did you prefill the filter before fitting?
Did you try the purge procedure?

No I didn't don't prefill, but went through purge procedure. Just ftried it again and now it won't start at all

Purge procedure can take a few attempts, plus I have known it kill an older battery.

What is it doing now, when you say it will not start? does it turn over?

Yes it turns over but not starting , it seems to purge and whine stops but then won't start

Double check your battery voltage during cranking.

But I would try the purge again.

I've put battery on charge for a full charge, I'll try it in morning as it was nearly flat, maybe not enough power to purge fully.

There are some electrical brainy parts on the car that require a good voltage, If you do a search you can probably find them , but the point is that a low voltage can cause them not to work and stop the car from starting from what I have read, So I always make sure the car voltage is OK.

I believe that the ECU needs at least 10.5 volts to power it during cranking. If the battery voltage drops below that it could still turn over, albeit sluggishly but the ECU won't be working and controlling the injectors.

Try another filter if no luck then fuel pump

Don't forget the air bleed valve too

Had similar problem after running out of fuel the other day turned out to be the pump in the tank changed now fine if not better than it was also new filter and removed little valve thing

Some times the little rubber washer in the centre of the filter sticks on the stem of the mount when you remove the old filter, then when you fit the new one you actually have two washers on the centre stem.
This stops the filter sealing correctly, you can put a bowl under the filter then take it off clean it and check.
Worth checking it.

Hi, got it running after charge and bleed procedure, and easistart into inlet manifold to pull through. Ran fine for a while then pump started whining again .
Could it be a leak in fuel line, if they run along chassis . I had to use a whizzed to cut off my rotten sidesteps so wondering if it's somehow damaged fuel lines?

Do you have any obvious leaks of fuel anywhere?

Anything else you have done?

Can't see any leaks. Only had trouble since changing fuel filter . Wonder if small washer in middle has seated properly.or filter has collapsed inside.

If you do change it, make sure to prefill the new one.

When I see the thread title like this one, I wonder is it "Bleeding this fuel filter" or "This bleeding fuel filter".
The answer to that question could have a significant influence on the type of advice you get.
