Best oils???

Going to be changing my diff oil, transfer box oil and gearbox oil at the weekend....

im i right in saying you can use the same oil for the diffs and the transfer box?

And can anyone recomend some decent quailty oil....

EP90 only for diffs, Same for Transfer Box or you can use EP80/90 but not on diffs. I use this: Smith & Allan EP 90 Gear Oil API GL4 5 ltr | eBay UK

Whats best for the gearbox R380...

As Andy says - EP90 in the transfer box and diffs. I buy in bulk and use a large metal syringe thing (made by sealey) to inject through the filler holes.

Make sure the filler undoes before you drain - it's a real shag to find out it doesn't afterwards!

Using MTF94 in the gearbox (mines a 1994 300 Tdi), although ATF Dexron II or III is fine as well. From trawling threads (I'm not brave enough to ask questions about tyres or oils myself!) the MTF appears to have been a manufacturer recommended change.

I order my MTF from Rimmers - not sure that they're the cheapest, but couldn't source locally

Whatever you do, don't put EP90 in the gearbox - that's bad, bad, bad

Haven't bought any gearbox oil yet as it was done at my mates workshop recently. I will probably buy some of this next month though:

The diff take about 1.8ltr each and the transfer box is about 2.2ltr, we bought 10ltrs when we last got some

Diffs are 1.7l each and the t/box is 2.3l
As SH says it's a good idea to use a syringe for the diffs, you'll avoid a lot of mess

Might as well carry on playing nicely

This is the one I use

How much oil does that syringe hold SH? Doesn't say on the site.

I do like these plastic ones too, so you can measure the amount going in/out..shake it all about.

Don't forget to top up the steering balls with EP90!

That's the one I got Storm ... very interesting look from the wife when I opened it, especially as you get the tube and gloves with it
