Hi mates,

just installed today band new belts and tensioners..., all worked fine and the car started pretty nice and no noises. But after a short ride of 15kms and when I stopped I could hear the cams noise like " vuk vuk vuk vuk vuk..." and whe I throtle up " vuuuuuuuuuuuuu"
Isnt too louder but Im a bit concern.., is it normal when you change to brand new belts?

cheers

mine made a bit of noise when they were changed for a few days, then it went,i just think its the new belts and bearings running in.similar noise to mine , mine was wooo

Exactly ..., made already 50kms and the noise still remaing. However, in cold I cant hear anything, only starts after I make a few kms. Im thinking that could be the belt and the bearings seating..., lets see during the weekend.

How long it will take to went away?

Had the same on mine for the first three or 4 days (that's about 150mi)then all ok.

Not sure which engine you have but looking back at your previous posts presume its either the 1.8 petrol or early rover L Series diesel. Sounds like the belt is either too loose or to tight, if too tight the alternator bearings wil be overloaded and cause a screeching noise, if too loose the belt will slip and cause a similar noise until the power load is reduced on the alternator. As the TD4 has an automatic adjuster on tne alternator belt the screeching problem should not be present.

I think it's the cam belt that has been changed ;)
Sometimes a new belt can whine slightly for a few miles until the teeth familiarize themselves to the pulleys, but it can also be a sign that the belt is over tight? Does it have a manual or auto tensioner?

Whoops read it as fan/alternator belts:eek:. Changed the Cambelt on a 200 TDI discovery some years ago but failed to change the adjuster, ended up with a permanent whine after.
