Hello,

I was thinking that seeing as my defender doesn't pour diesel out now, and I have a friend visiting this weekend that I would like to take him out around the countryside and show him the basics of off roading.

Ok, so I have some experience as I grew up on a farm, but as far as ones on the road go, I am a bit of a noob.

I was wondering if anyone is going out in Derbyshire or the Peak District on Sat or Sun that I can tag along with?

Or if not (I know it will be annoying having someone who is a beginner), can you recommend a couple of places that I can go to try out the basics?

I have bought an OS Explorer map, and read all of the posts about how to find green lanes. Very helpful, so thanks for them.

I also completely agree with all of the codes of conduct of green laning and hate knobs who just fly through everything as fast as they can, there is no skill in that and it makes it miserable for everyone else.

Also, any hints on what to take with me and stuff like that would be appreciated.

Thanks,

James

Cant help I'm afraid, but don't trust the map, a lot of the lanes in Derbyshire are TROd.

You really need trailwise but its not working at the moment. Might be before the weekend though TrailWise FAQ

Does your friend have a 4x4, if not then don't do it. You shouldn't go out on your own

It might be worth holding off a bit until you've had a better look around here, searched and checked the definitive maps. ;)

No, he has a Honda Civic!

I guess I will wait until some people from round here go then and just take him on some muddy roads this weekend!

Thanks, I will check that link.

Its a bit of a pain but its just the mapping on Trailwise that isnt working, the text based search/results are still there.

And more text based boredom but lane closures are listed here ......

Search the register: Leisure and culture - Derbyshire County Council

Mr GINGE the killjoy here :(

You CANT rely on Trailwise to check the legality of lanes. Even when it is back up and working it is not a definitive source of information

Councils do not update trailwise. You HAVE to speak to a ROW officer or a GLASS rep for the area. There is no other way.
