A slight little problem with both my freelanders, one is a v plate DI, the other 55 TD4. The problem I have is when opening the drivers door after unlocking the alarm beeps for a while before stopping, it only does it after unlocking the door, not if it was left unlocked.
I think I found somewhere that there is a 'key in door' alarm, but cannot find it again.

its telling you that the batteries in your fob need changing
Yes indeedy. Once changed you will need to resynchronise your sqeaker to the cars security system. Easiest way is to unlock the car first, then change the battery, then put the key in the ignition (the squeaker is on the key ring, right?). When you switch on the ignition the CCU will confer with the squeaker using the passive coil that surrounds the ignition switch. In a few seconds all is done and your good to go.
