Battery Drain on P38 2.5 - Help appreciated

Overnight the battery (new) drains flat although the car is driven on 2x 60 mile journeys the day before.

I have noticed that if i dont lock it either via the key or fob the battery is fine in the morning and its starts no problem.

I have read somewhere that there is a wire (rf ???) that needs chopping, if anyone can advice/help Id appreciate it.

the blue wire off the rf box is the one you take off..

i have the same problem, just fitted a new battery, still have the problem, so u say remove the blue wire from the rf box, sorry but what is the rf box

It's the radio recever that receives the signals from the FOB to unlock the car. The early RF receiver designs were suscptable to pikking up unwanted signals from WiFi, wireless door bells etc which keeps waking up the BECM flatening the battery. The RF receiver is under the rear drivers side parcel shelf.

We share the same problem with battery drain, have you removed the offending wire? if so did it work and can you still lock the car ok?

Ive started keeping the lappy in my car, checking for an area with no wi-fi and parking it there, no problem in the morning, but leave it outside my home and its always flat.

It's not just WiFi that uses the critical requencies.

So I just chop the blue wire? Is this the actual aierial and im making its range shorter?

dont chop it just unplug it, your fob will still work you just need to be close to the window..

Don't 'chop' the wire, just unplug it.
Yes, you are removing the aerial so in future you will have to be a lot closer to the vehicle for your remote to work. However it means that the vehicle will not pick up whatever signal it is that is keeping your car 'awake'.

As ive had replies from 2 of the best rangy brains on the forum, may i throw another idiot question in ?
I have bought the hot start fix from ebay, have you any experience of fitting it, it doesnt look too daunting aslong as i find the right grey/blue wire, but whats youre experience of the kit, will it do the job etc

i fitted it and took it off,it worked kind of,but i found it made mine thirsty,it just masked the problem,make sure it is the pump at fault first,mine needs a new pump(no chance),will send it away for reconditioning suggest you do the same,the hot start fix will work but will put more stress on your pump,only my opinion see what others have to say,but having fitted the kit i wasn't all that impressed.

I'll bare that in mind as im pretty sure santa wont stretch to a new one. Having driven for the best part of 30 yrs, I thought car ownership was about putting fuel in weekly,bit of oil now and again, a annual service,insurance premium and some tax - This P38 ownership is getting dearer than the wife,3 kids,2 dogs and a mistress !!!!
