Anyone tried having their 'box hot flushed? Over in the states they swear by it. I'm just wondering if it mught cure my 'flaring' between 3rd & 4th gear.

Can anyone in the SW (Chippenham / Swindon area) recommend a transmission specialist?

the oil is highly detergent ,id be surprised if you got much **** out unless a clutch pack is going in which case pointless, than through oil change which will be running hot anyhow ,autos are remarkedly clean boxes ,more for cleaning system after fitting another box after clutch has left debris in cooler /tc

I'd been thinking of doing this on mine when I'm doing the autumn service this year, although the my flaring between 1st and 2nd is much improved since putting some Lucas snake oil in with the new fluid last month (it still has a slight judder, but vastly improved, and I've only done a few hundred miles since).

I was thinking along the lines of a DIY job, taking the pipes off the cooler and measuring one litre at a time in and out. I reckon it would be a fairly straightforward job for two people, although I'd probably make sure I had a spare cooler and pipes to hand first (I was going to change them anyway, but the slight leak I had seems to have disappeared).

This might well be one of those jobs I decide to do one weekend when it's too wet to do any gardening, so if I get round to it anytime soon I'll let you know how I get on :)

Tried the Lucas stuff already... didn't do a thing for it.

Fluid is nice, clean, pink and sweet-smelling - so no burning clutch packs, I don't think. More like a sticky valve.

James, does it lose it's detergent properties over time, ie putting new fluid in will give it a good clean?

didnt think yours had but its the only time a box gets dirty ,yes oil can be clean and worn out ,the valves are spool type valves similar to relief valves in the engine ,springs can wear valves can too or stick
