anyone know if removing the oil bath intake will increase power??

I want to make room for two optima red top batteries I got for free but the stupid oil bath filter is in the way
-anybody ever mess around with some flex pipe and a K/N filter or something like that??
Anything has got to be better than that old oil bath Right?

before i took mine apart i had a k&N filter on, bolted direct to zenith carb, no other pipes and it went ok, took the oil filer bath and pipes out.... dont think i got pictures but you could check on my thread (picture uploads)

Its actually not stupid. Its a very good idea. It lasts forever cause its metal and the oil bath actually catches crap!

Briliant design the oil type filter im running one on my tdi.

I fitted one of those stupidly large boy racer filter and seems to work ok but I dont drive the truck too much so couldnt give an expert opinion !
I fitted it to the flexi hose and hide it in the void of the n/s/f wing but still left the oil bath in place if I want to go back to it.

In my eyes, I have a better solution. I did not want an open filter like a K&N - to me, an open filter on an off-road vehicle. partic when mine sees a lot of sand, mud, water, etc, does not really make sense.

So I used a Range Rover EFI airbox. The idea was to create space for the twin batteries, so I located it on the other side of the car (where the heater would normally be on a S3) - but had to cut open the filter, reverse the direction and stick back together. Then mated to a snorkel.
