Hi guys,

Got the new EWP controller first thing, tried it, nada. There's nothing more I can do here (my parent's house in rural wales) and they have ####ed off for an impromtu weekend break leaving me to figure out how to get a shagged Freelander back to Nottingham.

Anyone know of a service that could truck it back for less than extortion? I don't know what else to do at this point :(. This is the lowest point thus far with this car, I'm going to have to tear out the whole EWP system and wiring and replace everything or put it back to stock.

Please, don't tell me to burn it - I'm way past seeing the humour in this situation now :(.

Will.

Well a friend of mine has offered to come and pick me up, so she's pretty much a life saver. For now I'm going to leave the car on my Dad's drive, and when the world starts turning again after new year I'll organise getting it trailered up to me in Notts.

After that I'm not sure. If DC come back and say they'll give me a refund on the new controller and a replacement EBP + wiring loom then I'll stick with it. But if they say no deal then I'm going to put it back to the PRT thermostat system with a new mechanical water pump. If it's good enough for you guys then it'll do for me :).

So I don't know how this is going to pan out, but I can't help but feel like there might be a sad and expensive ending to the EWP saga. I don't know if it's my fault or if the technology just isn't ready, but I'm running out of money and patience and just want a car I can drive. I'll be ok driving the missus' Ibiza but it'll be nice not to have to think about the Hippo for a few days at least.

Gutted :(.

Already with RAC, but because my parents address is my permanent address at the moment, and the address on my RAC membership, they won't tow it anywhere as as far as they are concerned it's at home. So no help coming from them, already called them about it.

tow it 2 miles away, then you can be transported to any destination you want

No the terms and conditions are pretty explicit, so that's out. No way around it, just have to find the cheapest transport quote that I can.

well i know i'd have found a way round there terms and conditions,
how do the rac know whether you drove or towed it the 2 mile,
you say you set off to visit someone, broke down on the way and you want them to transport you with the rest of your journey.
I dont know if the rac is same as aa but you can use any garage you want to fix the vehicle, so choose a place near to your Nottingham home, then arrange a tow from there to your place

The RAC will only tow to a garage "in the territory where you broke down" if they can't fix it by the roadside. Perhaps the AA are better.

But if I have to spend the money on transporting it then sobeit, no more half measures. I'm either going to get this done properly or not at all.

costs me £100 for the aa for family roadside assistance, and recovery, and they will take you any where you were all ready travelling to

It depends on what level of RAC cover you have. Mine will tow me anywhere I want to go.

I have to admit that I haven't really read much of your threads about this EWP business (I have a td4) but I was certainly under the impression that it was still a very much experimental thing and you were basically doing a trial for the developers?
If that is the case, and it is probably a bit late saying this now, but if they want customers to trial out unproven technologies, then the customers should not be expected to pay for it. If they want field-trials THEY should be paying for it like any other developer.

Yes I have pretty basic cover I'm afraid. The EWP is experimental, but only in the freelander context - the design of the system itself is in production. However I think they need to be supplying far more detailed info about installation, the manual deals with the nuts and bolts but in truth you need a firm grasp of cooling theory and something to help you decode what your system needs in terms of changes. It isn't as plug and play as it's marketed to be.

I'm sure that when the manufacturer returns to work from the Oz festive break there will be good news Re refunds they are supposed to be very understanding.

But the current problem defies explanation, and it need to go into a strippin' workshop to get to the bottom of it.
