I stripped the dash and took the wiper system out complete, the splined shaft adaptor was solid to the wheel box shaft, the wiper arms were solid to the adaptor but they still have a sort of 60° sweep, I reckoned they should sweep about 100° however, when I stripped the motor gearbox I notice it says 115° on the gear wheel, so I was close. I worked this out on the windscreen and I am getting no where near the full 115° sweep.

I tried the trick of turning the drive cable round 180° so that a fresh part of the cable is running the wheel box gears and this made no difference.

I did actually change the wheel boxes years ago so didn't suspect they would be at fault and they are still fine looking.

So I can't really see any major wear yet the wipers are pathetic.

I really want to get them spot on and would rather not just buy all new bits and hope that fixes it.

Anyone have experience of this and how they fixed it?

That guide doesn't really help unfortunately; as I said I have stripped the whole lot and have no issues with stripping it to pieces and rebuilding the system, I am looking for someone to help shed light on any known issues with these.

I have carefully looked at the cable and the boxes and cannot see any significant wear. I am wondering if there is insufficient clamping force from the wheel box onto the pipe letting it move slightly reducing the cables ability to transfer the drive.

Mine has the same problem, narrow sweep arc, but both arms move about 20 degrees if one is moved, which makes me think the slack is in the motor end. The drivers side wheelbox does clunk on every sweep as well which make me think its sticking. Would be interested in how you get on. Once I get the big jobs finished hopefully I can get round to stripping the wipers.

Any play in the linkage from the cable to the gear wheel. I know mine has a bit there which reduces the coverage but when I am using it and its ****ing down it extends the coverage
