The exhaust manifold on my 200tdi is leaking gas where the joints for cylinders 1 and 4 join the rest of the manifold. It makes things very restful on the M11, as the car slowly fils with CO gas. Can it be repaired, i.e. filled and wrapped up, or is the only safe way to replace it?

I’m sure the 200tdi manifold is in 3 pieces. If mine started to leak, I would strip it down, clean the joining faces and apply a small amount of exhaust paste. Rebuild and hope it seals. If it doesn’t, apply more when it’s built.

I would cheat first of all and wrap the slip joint in some exhaust wrap and stainless ties and see how you get on.

Then if no good out with the manifold and some exhaust paste on the slip joints, plenty of duck oil to allow the joint to slide apart.
