Hi its a disco 300tdi the problem is that only when going slow ie slowing at a junction sometimes the brake pedal goes hard and starts bashing at my foot as if the disco was on ice i think the abs is cutting in but there is nothing to skid on also sometimes the abs light stays on but this problem is there regardles of light on or off the brakes work fine when im up to road speed thanks lads

ABS over reacting? drive slowly with 2 wheels on the grass and 2 on tarmac and brake quite hard, does it happen then?

Not that you should but if you remove the ABS fuse does it stop?

If so its the ABS.

The easiest single way of isolating the ABS, to see if it's the problem is by disconnecting the electrical connector on the abs pump itself. The pump is the lump of a thing on the LHS of the engine bay with loads of metal pipes going to it.

Your brakes will work perfectly normally/safely, just no ABS function, so drive accordingly and leave more space between you and the car in front.
