I have been checking over a Freelander 2 that I purchased recently ( thankyou to Nodge68 for the pointer in the right direction;)). The rear wheel compartment doesn`t have a spare wheel although judging by the attached photo there appears to be markings on the bottom of the compartment to suggest perhaps there may have been one in situ previously.

I have never used foam or a tyre inflator canister before, so, What is the can of inflator like to use? as I have heard stories suggesting the foam spray can not be removed from any deflated tyre rendering the tyre redundant.

I much prefer the idea of finding a replacement spare wheel, the wheels presently fitted are 235/60R18. Is there such a thing as an 18" space saver wheel for a Freelander or would I need to find another conventional 18" wheel and tyre together with a suitable jack?

Looking forward to reading peoples thoughts and suggestions.

The foam may have a purpose if you come out of the house to find a slow puncture...and have to get somewhere before you have the time to get it sorted. and yes, the tyre cannot then be repaired, but the foam may last a fair length of time. If you get a puncture in the "normal" way...ie when travelling, then the chances of the foam actually doing anything worthwhile make the National Lottery look like sure thing.
Look around for a full size spare...is my advice.
:)

Tyre repair foam doesn't replace a proper spare, not even close.

I've an unused but 12 year old FL2 spare wheel in my spares pile, as I wanted a matching alloy for mine.

Thank you very much Beneagles and Nodge68 for your replies ;)
Been looking on that well known internet auction site for 235/60R18 wheels but very few available in my alloy wheel style. As an alternative short term, Will any Freelander 18" wheel fit? Do I need a dedicated Freelander jack or will a scissor jack suffice?

I replaced my 17” space saver with a 18” alloy that matched the reset as I often drive across Europe and didn’t want speed restrictions from using a space saver. It fits perfectly in the wheel well and is not as heavy. I now buy 5 tires and swap them round occasionally.

Thanks very much Stv123 and Artic2 for taking the time to reply ;)
Going to the Pennyfarthing Fair at Newark on Sunday, hopefully somebody might have one for sale there. In the meantime I would appreciate some confirmation advice on the jack though :)

Bide your time. I got an undamaged rim with a good tire for 60 quid. There is normally loads around but not many at the moment other than breakers asking top price.

The trick is definitely wait, and something will come along which is a good deal. I did that very thing when looking for a replacement head for mine. When I needed a head, they were all too expensive, knackered or missing parts, or a combination of all 3, so I put the old head on and decided to wait.
Then out the blue, an 8900 mile 2015 head came along, complete with cams, for £310.:)

Thank you very much Stv123 and Nodge68 for your continued interest in this thread, much appreciated and sound advice.
I have seen some wheels and tyres being advertised seperately (as opposed to selling complete sets of 4 or 5) on that well known internet auction site for prices in excess of £200. The cheaper options being advertised all seem to be collection only and mean travelling over 100+ miles to collect.
I only need something for a spare so in that respect it doesnt necessarily have to look pretty just functional, will bide my time to see what comes along. ;)

Mine has style 2, 17" alloys, but came with an unused 17" steel spare, of reduced load index and section width.
I managed to pick up another style 2 wheel locally on FB Market Place for just £10. All I needed to do was to fit a new tyre, which wasn't that expensive.

Thankyou for your reply Nodge68 but unfortunately I dont do FB, my daughter got caught out a few years ago and I vowed never to use their platform.

Will take at look around the Newark fair on Sunday ;). Any tips on the style of jack I ought to be looking for, will a scissor jack suffice or would a 2 ton bottle jack be better suited?
