It's a 2003 TD5 with just the climate control in the front. Thought it wasn't as cold as I would expect so had it recharged at the end of May. Before I went I did check the compressor clutch was kicking in and out as the Econ was pressed and it was.
It was checked for leaks and regassed although they (Kwikfit) did comment that they couldn't check it properly as the fan wouldn't kick in. I didn't realise at the time but have since found it has to be really warm before it does kick in (28C), a damn sight warmer than we usually get around here anyway. The fan is fine, the relay and fuse OK and bypassing the relay powers the fan up.
Having felt that the aircon still wasn't kicking in the other day I started checking and immediately spotted the compressor clutch not engaging as it used to. Yes I had made sure Econ was Off!
Manual fault check on the aircon control gives F00.
All fuses OK.
Relays all OK, have tried swopping with no success.
Bypassing the relay does engage the clutch but doesn't affect the air temp at the vents and neither of the pipes changes temp on the compressor.
A quick dab at the refill valves indicates pressure in the system but no idea if sufficient.
All pipes appear OK, with particular attention paid to the one under the air box but it did pass the leak test.
I will be heading back when I get chance to get the pressure checked but was just wondering if there is anything else to check or could be the likely culprit.
Could the compressor be FUBAR even though it engages and seems to run smoothly with no undue noises (didn't run for long in case there was an issue with lack of gas)?
Sorry for the long post :)
