Annoying locks

Hi everyone, new to this thread hoping someone can help I have 06 freelander 3 door remote has never worked so just use key, however it has now started to unlock itself only way to lock is to hold key for few seconds until it gives up the fight and stays locked Anybody help help please

Sounds like the key switch is faulty. They're not designed for continuous locking functions, just as an emergency or occasionally if a pet is left inside.
So that the first thing to check.
It's best to get the remote working, as this won't wear out the door switches, and is more secure, as the car is deadlocked with the remote, which it isn't with the key.
