Alternator fault code

Nearly every time i turn the ignition on i get a 'beep' and 'Alternator Fault' on the dash.

Iv tested me aternator with a meter, I got 14.35v directly from the back, with engine running and exactly the same reading across the batt with engine running.

The fault message has appeared for over a week now with no signs of a weak or faulty batt....

I know 14.35v is not the best but would this bring up a fault message?

Also i got this reading shortly after starting it up so my not have had chance to fully replenish what it took to start it?

Wheres abouts is the Earth strap located? (just so i can go straight to it)

What does the test involve (under load test)

I was told the fault codes cannot be read for an alternator? Is this right?
 
Alternator charge signal to BeCM , plug C114 (C1289 99my onwards) pin 15 should be
12v with engine running. Also check small terminal on the alternator i think that is the charge signal????

I am assuming the battery warning lamp on the instrument panel goes out when the engine is running if it does then i would imagine there is no problem with what i suggest checking.

Yes mate all the lights go out as normal when the engine has started. Even the alternator fault goes off when started....
 
check the connections are ok if it passes a load test which most do it will still fault susjest a new unit
 
You haven't had your instrument binnacle out have you?
I got this, and a few other funny faults including 99.9 mpg, after I'd had the dials out. I hadn't pushed the plugs back in properly.

That message is generated by the BECM, the alternator start current is unusually provided by the BECM not the lamp on the dash, so I would look at the connection from the small terminal on the alternator to the BECM. If that line has a high resistance it will make the BECM think the alternator is duff. However some alternators will start charging without the start current as a result of residual magnetism, then the signal on the small terminal goes from 0 volts to 12 volts and the BECM sees that and turns off the message and the light on the dash.
 
Does nobody do a search if your getting 14.35v then the issue is most likely corroded bcem plug giving high resistance. You need eka code that works, disconnect battery and disconnect bcem plugs. Clean with brass brush(suede brush) and only electrical contact cleaner or isopropanol alcohol from chemist.
Do not use wd40 or similar

D**N good point from FANATIC.

WD40 leaves an oily residue, it's meant to, it's "Water Dispersant formula 40".

If any-one is ever cleaning anything electronic isopropyl alcohol is the best stuff. Maplins have started selling it in aerosol cans, an ideal way of carrying it in your tool box. The alcohol dissolves grease etc. and the aerosol effect blows the residue away.



ere, I've just found another 270 smilies that I never knew existed on here. Violent little buggers, aren't they?
