Well I am using a Freelander engine compartment fuse box, it has severn relays and plenty of fuses so will do for this job just fine. I wired up the main relay to power the PCM and two more outputs for the two banks of injectors, all working ok
then I thought I would use the A/C relay to power the instruments. then I noticed that I have 3 volts at the injectors with the ign off. So some head scratching ensued and after looking at Power distribution on RAVE I figured out the output from the main relay also feeds the windings of the A/C relay so when switched off there is a back feed through the windings of the A/C relay to the injector outputs, Phew.
I will have to get some Diodes to sort it out.
Also I have been quoted £75 for a Start capacitor for my compressor, which got broken off when something fell on it. That was Ingersoll Rand price. so now I have to start searching for one at normal price, only problem is I can't read the microfarad rating on the old one.

About time I updated this thread. Well I have been doing lots of small finishing jobs, so not much to show really. All the coolant hoses are on, the oil cooler pipes are made and fitted, Pas pipes are made and fitted though I don't like the return pipe so will get another one made. the props are fitted. I have welded in a couple of bosses for the water temp, one for the fans and one for the temp gauge. fitted a horn. engine wiring loom is made, still got some wiring to do though. I have fitted the floor inside.
I have been looking at transporter trucks. However our dog Tag scratched his eye, we took him to the vet who gave us some ointment and some pain killer (metacam) which caused a bleed in his gut. £3K latter he is back home feeling sorry for himself and the insurance won't cover it. So the transporter will have to wait.
But we are on the home straight now :)

Wow, you must love that dog! Or does it fetch your spanners and then put them away for you? ;)
It looks stunning, mate. Like the other panels etc the engine cover looks perfect. It looks like a plastic mould in the picture!

The dog is a world famous stud dog (Alport Hurricane) he has done 2 tours of France doing stud work at 1000 euros a pop so it is only fair we look after him and he is my buddy.
As for the motor,The tunnel is composite and the engine cover is alloy, the bit around the exhaust manifolds is steel I thought alloy might transmit too much heat.

Well worth spending 3K on then!
Think I saw a picture of the engine cover fabricated in the raw alloy and it looked v good. Saw it painted and it looked amazing.

It probably looks better in the pic than it is, I am happy with it though.
I was at our bank holiday club weekend event yesterday and the Comp course looked amazing as did the trial, lots of families camped out and barbies on the go. I can't wait now.

Well the radiator is all piped up and bolted in. The fans are wired and working, I put a temp switch in to work the fan relay and an override switch.
The fuel pumps are wired up, the tank breather has a roll over valve and a filter fitted.
the fuel pressure reg is piped up and mounted.
The gearbox breather is clipped up there somewhere.
Wiring is run in for the tail lights though I don't need any untill Aug next year for the night Comp.
I just need to make a spill cover for the tank but haven't got enough aluminium at the mo.
At the front I have fitted the oli cooler pipes.
The high pressure PAS pipe is made and fitted. I made up a return pipe which you can see but I don't like it so will get one made the same as the pump to box pipe.
I had a set of HT leads made and they are fitted.
I ordered a custome length pollyvee belt to do away with the A/C pump and that fits ok.
Most of the wiring is now done, just lights left to do.
I have fitted a horn and wired that.
And as you can see I have still to make up a throttle cable and pedal mech. Cables from the throttle bodies are fitted but I need to make a progressive pedal linkage. I was hoping to buy one but I can't fine anything for sale that will do the job.

I have fabricated a throttle pedal and connected two cables And it all works smoothly, I did have to move the pedal pivot point a couple of times before it felt right and adjust the ratio to get the travel right.

The rear cover is finished with rubber trim around the edge and spring retaining clips fitted, also rear lights are fitted though still waithin on some water proof relays for the lights.

The engine cover is also finished. I started too configure the engine ECU today but my comms lead which is a RS232 to usb won't work as I can't install the driver that came with it, I have a straight through DB9 which works on the house PC but I don't have a DB9 on my laptop.

Owl, looking at those pictures just makes me smile so much. It looks absolutely superb. :D It looks stunning in the first picture you posted tonight, that's a great look from the front. Fantastic achievement, mate. :)

Thanks Al I appreciate the comment, I hope it goes as good as it looks.
I have also had it log booked this week, I am an ALRC log book scrutineer and a friend who is also a scrut came over and we did both inspections together.
Once it is running and I have made a cover for the fuel tank I can use it for trials, then mudflaps and a spill kit and I can Comp.
I have purchased a set of Malatesta Kobra NT tyres and am currently painting the alloys. I will use the diamonds when it is muddy an wet and the Kobra's when the ground is dry or fast, diamonds wear out fast on gravel tracks and also squirm an can be unstable.

It certainly does look just about set to go. Good luck with the ALRC events. I'm looking forward to finding out how you get on. Some action shots from the events would be good to see ;) Good luck, mate. Can't be many things more satisfying than building your own vehicle then winning competitions with it. :)

Well done Owl finally seeing the end of the tunnel. This has actually brought me back into LZ for a good look since the tapatalk support doesnt work on this site anymore.

Is it true though that P&D are leaving the ALRC or is it a rumour?

No it.s not true, we have set up a sister club which is P&D off-road club. When you join P&D (which runs under ALRC regs) you can also opt to join P&DORC (MSA reg club) then you can enter ALRC open events with a non ALRC motor without having to join another club, same as Staffs and Shrops have done.

Yes it is exciting to be nearly done, just got to get my head around the Megasquirt thing and find a beavertail to move it on. I hope to finish the thread with a vid or two, or I may keep it running with the shakedown test and development.

Hi folks, I am still working on this project though I haven't posted. It's just lots of finishing off jobs so not worth putting up pics of every last bit.
I have been trying to get the engine started and have now worked out that the crank sensor is faulty, as in a very poor signal. The problem is that they don't make this sensor anymore. there is a modified kit, however on the pic's I have seen it looks bigger and the current faulty one is very close to the front gearbox output flange. I have ordered one and will see if it fits when it arrives, which should be today.

I haven't got the engine running yet, I have a faulty crank sensor and have one on order. At first I thought it was the Megasquirt settings but finally figured out there isn't a crank signal.
While I have been waiting I have made a bash plate/ mud sheild to go under the rear and a cover for the fuel tank which is an ALRC requirement.
And finally I have painted my Alloy wheels and fitted tyres.
