As is the tradition in my household, we have been planning next years land rover exped since boxing day.
We were considering a raid into spain as we are slowly building up to a Morroco trip when the kids are a wee bit older, but the draw of the French Alps and lakes has won over.
We did the Camargue park in the Med last year and enjoyed the trip, but didn't get much off road action.
Anyone got any must do drives for the French Alps???

ha :) we will be there late Aug/Early Sept 09.

Offroad in the french alps seems pretty vauge. they seem to have some trouble regarding legality of lanes etc. whilst i am also told that Italy does not have this problem! after a lot of searching and reading around, the best "base" i can come up with is from this site:

Roadbooks

I have a fair bit more research to do 1st, but we will deff be heading down to Grenoble onto Briancon and doing the Col de Papillion. there is one more track on the roadbook further south, then we will head over into Italy and plan to do a few days there (still needs research and talking to people). from there, heading north into Switzerland and head north back toward home.

hope this helps. If you find anything on the net or otherwise please let me know. And when it comes to planning Morocco, feel free to get in touch. we went as a solo vehicle for 4 weeks October 08.

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I will focus some of my research there. I remember talking to the guy from Boab.biz a while ago and he mentioned loads of places in france. I will pop over and see him for some interogation.

If i find anything usefull i will send it your way:)

Anthony5351;

Sorry can't offer much in the way of off-road routes, but here's a nice place to camp;

Good luck, and safe journey!

Griffdowg;
Thanks for good info, as always, and hopefully will make Morocco next year, Italian off-road maps can be brought locally, so I've been informed. If you want any info on some Swiss mountain passes, just let me know, I've done a few of them.
Cheers, Mark

Went through some old mags over the weekend and found this link.

Bienvenue sur le site du Club 4x4 des Aigles Val d'Isère Tignes

i cannot read French, but the rough jist of it is, you pay 60eu. and get to drive all the waymarked tracks in valdisere. there is even somewhere to stay in the mountains owned by the club, with their own BBQ area. now if your just passing through its probably not worth it, but if your spending time at this place, 60Eu may be worth spending. I beleive you get a map, and all the trails are signed/marked. Like i said though, you must be a member of this club as they seem to have exclusive rights to this place (for 4x4s).

HTH.
