Hi

Could anyone tell me if on a 2013 defender with standard steel white wheels, if I wanted to get alloys (potentially black) how does it work? I want to stick with land rover defender wheels.
So basically things like:
What size?
If I buy alloys will the tyres I have fit on them or will I need new tyres too?
What's the standard wheel size for the defender? (I dont want to modify the ride essentially)
Anyone know a good place to get them / know the names of the wheels so I can google them?
Or any other general useful info about this?

Thank you

Hardest thing will be telling your friends and family you're gay. Why do people want to put alloy wheels on Defenders?

Interesting answer...Thanks.
Anyone else?

Right, so your standard steels should be 16". Got a tape measure?
Next you probably want to go to your nearest Land rover main stealer and have a butchers at the alloys available, choose some you like in the size you want and go buy them from else where. Bargains to be had from eBay etc. If you must have brand new then get your credit card out and pull your pants down, it only takes a minute. :D

Keep your tyres if you like them or if you want to go an all terrain or a mud terrain then you usually get a good deal from all the aftermarket suppliers.

Great thanks for that.
I don't have the car yet so can't measure. So if I got 16" alloys then the tyres would be changeable from the steel wheels. Most alloys I've seen say 'booster' so I'm guessing bigger. Does this effect the ride at all? Or is it purely cosmetic in looking bigger?

Thanks again

The tyre will show the wheel size if you forget your tape measure!

Numbers on side wall

*** x ** x 16 = 16" wheels.

Width x Hight x wheel size

You are probably looking at alloy wheels called boost ;)

Alloy wheels make your landrover look shiny. Modular wheels with some thick rubber makes your landy look good. It's all down to taste

No, 'boost' is just the name for a style of wheel, which was a standard option on Defenders. Most of them are 16" by 7" which should accommodate the standard tyres. Occasionally you find people have fitted non-standard wheels with 18" and 15" being popular choices.

also depends on the use the vehicle will be getting

I have 4 sets of wheels and tyres for mine ,boost alloys and insa turbos/firestyle alloys and road tyres/steel weller style with diamonds/standard landy steels with road tyres

all have their uses for certain applications with all being different height/tread pattern/width

Thanks everyone, Think road tyres would be best fore me, 90% of the time that's the use apart from the odd bit of off the beaten track off road surf spots.

If you're buying secondhand it might be worth trying to get a set with tyres on. Pump them up good and hard then paint on dilute washing up liquid or other bubbly stuff and see if there are any leaks, particularly round the rims.

Somebody could be getting rid of them because they are not airtight any more!
