I wanted to test if my aircon works. I think it needs regassing anyway, but after a half hour drive with engine temp Upto normal I pulled over and switched aircon button on. The fans didn't fire up. Is my aircon not working.
Also, I was checking fuses under bonnet (with ignition on) and pulled out what I think was fuse 4. The fans then fired up.
Then, I disconnected battery for an hour, reconnected. Switched on aircon but the little light on the aircon switch now doesn't come on. What's going on.

Majority of times you just need a regas, for £50 this is probably your best option. Rule out the cheapest option first before delving deeper or you may be wasting your time and money. Most aircon systems (in my experience) need a regas after about five years, if you get longer then you are lucky.

Air-con regas is now more expensive than it was like a year ago.

You cant legally regas an aircon system without first carrying out a nitrogen test.

Vac tests no longer count sadly.

So if there's no pressure because it needs regassing then the fans wouldn't come on anyway?

if there is no pressure, then the compressor will not cut in and the fans will not need to come on - trimary switch. easy to tell, put yo hand on the compressor - yu will feel (and hear) it click in.
