Hello, I have been wondering if it would be possible to remove the rear springs on my 1983 110 and relace them with p38 range rover air bags/springs and then add a manually controlled compressor , why? well for negotiating very uneven driveway with trailer. Any thoughts regards Tim.

Its something I am looking at to do with mine (but with all 4 corners) the receptacle on the chassis & axle is wrong for the air spring but I was looking at making suitable ones to accept the p38 bags.

Another alternative would be to use air assister bags which you just leave in there, you need more than just a compressor though if you want to let them up and down.

I would say 2 solenoid valves - 1 to let air in / 1 to let air out connected to a common manifold fed by a reservoir which has been supplied by the compressor.

Thank you, yes resovoir and a couple of soleniods , I am thinking that the assisters would not allow it to lower as the spring is still there.
I did change an air spring for a friend on a range rover and as i remember it was merely held with a couple of clips.

They are but it's a very different mounting set up. Also you need to be sure that the dampers prevent the axle from travelling too far or the pin would shear off.

I'm looking at doing it on mine as the tide quality is considerably better but you do lose the durability of the steel springs and you risk breaking down.

It'll need different bump stops too

The air bags will blow before the pin shears off
