Hello

I am new on here and after reading what feel like hundreds of previous threads this afternoon (which were great by the way) I have decided that I am still at a loss at to what to do, so am hoping that someone will be able to offer me some advice?

My other half servied the car today and changed the fuel filter, which one would think is a straightforward enough task. However the system is suuposed to be self priming and howevere much i try to start the engine, the fuel is just not coming up the fuel pipe. The pump is working and it ran for a while, until it used up all the diesel that we had put in the fuel filter.

Does anyone know how this can be fixed? preferably without costing me any money!!

Thank you :)

take the pipe of the out side of the fuel filtter have somethng to catch excess fuel and turn the engine over on the key and stop as soon as deisle is comig through

They aren't supposed to be self bleeding.

You are correct in that there is a fuel pump in the tank, but its only a balance pump.

The fuel is drawn up via the engine mounted pump.

What you need is a One way valved pump. The LR special tool looks like bulb pump fuel | eBay with a couple of pipes on it.

You just need to get fuel into the filter and into the lowside pipes, then start it.

Hello

Thank you for your help - we have now managed to get the air out of the fuel pipe and it full up with fuel.

we managed this my the age old force of gravity using some tubes and a container of fuel! The car then started and ran like a dream whilst the end of the fuel line was immersed in my plastic jug of fuel.

We have no reconnected the fuel lines to the fuel tank pump unit, as it shouls ba and no luck.

I am beginning to think the pump in the fuel tank has died - what are anyones thoughts on this? we have tried to get it going by connecting it outside of the fuel tank and no response from it at all!

So as you describe doing it, i would do this.

1) Fill the fuel filter with fuel

2)Syphon it upto the filter using whatever method you want.

3)Quickly reconnect the pipe from the tank to the filter and start the car.

You need fuel in the filter to get the car to start, you need no air in the pipes from the tank to the filter to keep it running.

Hello!!

thank you so much for all your help - car is up and running - turns out that it was the pump in the fuel tank playing up - all sorted now though!
