Hi all, wondering if anyone can help please.

My TD4 AC stopped working one day. Took it to be regassed, was told the system was full already but as the machine was automatic it did its thing and replaced the gas as well as vacuum test. Not faults logged and correct amount of gas in the system.

When the button is pressed the light comes on and the revs increase slightly however the pump doesn't run.

I'm thinking it's maybe the clutch that has gone, if so can these be replaced?

Cheers

Hi S1monm.
Yes if it is the clutch on the compressor, I think it would best to change the whole compressor to be honest, have you check also that the cooling fan is running when you call for the A/C when asking for cool/cold air, is the A/C in econ if so the clutch will not click in check before condemning the compressor clutch, you should be able to see the clutch move in and out when it is called for.

If this is a Freelander 1 - no econ mode. If engine note changes then that suggests magnetic circuit for clutch is firing up. Not easy to see if compressor running or not as pulley turns with belt. Check feed to air con compressor - single wire that unplugs, then be sure that compressor not being driven when clutch energised. If suspect exchange compressor is the way to go.

Cheers. I'll check for voltage at the wire, if there is I guess I'll have to replace the compressor. How much of a job is it? A local garage that does air con says they'll empty and then refill it FOC. They also said they'd replace the compressor for £50 labour if I supply one. Think of getting one from a rover 75 as these seem cheaper and more readily available
