Having searched the threads I can't seem to come to a decision re
1984 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110

1984 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110

It's on auto trader at the mo - I know the early ones weren't meat to be great but if the Bulk heab and chassis are good were the engines that bad?

So far all I've looked at are series 2/3 and know nothing about the early defenders...

Cheers in advance

Simon

The engine is the easy bit to sort. If the rest of it is worth it, a later engine is piece of **** to swap in. As you say, the important things are the bulkhead and the chassis - if they're shot, while not a complete write-off, it's still a heap load of work to sort out.

Looks nice and tidy - I like that. :)
But you still need to see the bits that rot to make sure it's not just a tarting up excercise with a complete wreck beneath the pretty clothes.

'tis definitely the silly season. Prices are through the roof cos there's been a bit of snow on the ground. Same thing happened last year (cos it's when I bought mine )

Yep - snow tax - but the 110's don't seem to be as pricey as I;d thought?

As already said, paintwork looks pretty fresh. Good in some respects but i'd be suspicious of what it is hiding. Within 12 months all the rubbed sdown ali corrosion will be reappearing and the rotten bulkhead will bust through!

I notice the rivets are exposed on the rear windows on the nearside and not on the offside (not a problem, just an observation) I wonder if it's been too tarted for winter sale at a premium.

I am not saying don't do it but be prepared to walk away. I looked at 25+ before buying mine. Lots of people buy and want to get shot once they realise whats involved!!!

Wish I had a pound for every one I've looked at and walked away from but the one for me is out there somewhere...

It looks quite original, not messed about with, which is usually a good sign, its pre defender so the ali panels are thicker guage, just need to be careful about chassis and b/head as previously posted . With landies its condition not year thats important , they dont eveolve very quickly , and in some respects older is better JMHO
