ABS light sequence...

Hi all, yes i did search but did not find what i want.

What is the correct sequence for the ABS light?

I have read the Wabco book but being thick, i still cant figure it. I know it can show stored & active faults as well as ok.

Is it:-

On - Off - On - Off at 5mph = All ok
On - Off at 5mph = Stored fault but currently ok
On all time = Active fault - get the paperclip out

Currently telling me i have a stored fault.

I think it may be connected with the way i park sometimes? It only seems to work when travelling forwards after starting up and sometimes i park lazily and drive in forwards, the drive is on a long bend and if i reverse out, i need to do a u-turn, then drive forwards but with steering on full lock. That seems to sometimes create a fault and the lamp stays on all the time until restarting.

Either that or one of the sensors has moved again. I'll do a blink-test and see what she's hiding

2-14
2-15

Both weak signals, left-front & right-rear.

All cleared and i'll check the sensors next time i'm underneath (wont be long then )

BTW, i read the codes successfully WITHOUT removing the lamp relay, ignition on, paper-clip in and read away, worked perfectly, i might fit a switch under the dash.

thats a good idea as the abs dose seem to be a constant issue.

cant remember which thread i posted it in, but if you release the switch during its cycle, it will repeat the cycle then delete it and read the next fault. saves turning ignition off and on every time.

I left the ignition on all the time i was there.

Just turn on, wait a few seconds, paperclip in, read code, paperclip out to delete code, repeat when light stays on until you get the all clear code then ignition off.

It took less than 5 minutes, no messing with relays, no mucking about, done.

In need of some help

I diag tested the system and got 2-12 (sens gap) so I pushed it in and still no difference.

So I bought a new sensor off ebay - one thing I do notice is that the new sensor is very magnetic while the old one isn't. Anyway, I stripped out the old sensor replaced it and now I'm going backward.

Before the sensor light was on up till 7mph then went off then as soon as you tried to stop at around 7mph the ABS juddered and the light came on, so then you had no ABS.

Now with the new sensor the light comes on and remains on.

How can I test the sensor or is the error a roose and the issue is somewhere else...

Any help / suggestions more than welcome please.....

Tricky one, may be worth starting a new thread.

The only advice i can offer is to read and clear all /any error codes and test drive for a clear error reading, i found i had several codes that were all cleared by one fix.

Signal testing of a sensor is not really possible without an oscilloscope but i'm told they have a resistance of around 960 ohms when checked with a meter.

Don't mean to hijack the thread here, I'm guilty of pulling the ABS light and know it need looking at soon. Question is, is it quite normal for ABS to kick in when approaching junctions at crawling speed in the wet? This is the only time it happens on mine (quite frequent) always when braking at ~2mph!

Its not normal for it to kick in unless a wheel has lost traction, thats the only time it should come on. I have read numerous threads about your problem but cant remember the cure, search might help, i think i used "ABS light" when i last searched.

Cheers dave, yeh kinda gave up on it some time ago due to it passing mot.
Tbh I haven't yet done the 'paper-clip' test but it's a priority as does seem to kick in too often.
Maybe having muds doesn't help, although I thought if anything they would improve braking as they do traction.
Anyways, back to YOUR topic

No worries, get the paperclip in there Its interesting to see whats stored up in the little black box.

AFIK tyre size wont matter as long as all four are the same

Okay went for a longer drive and now its displaying the same behaviour as the previous sensor....

What I have noticed more so on this new sensor is that I hear some buzzing feedback via the radio system as the ABS is getting ready to kick in...

Is this a clue, will look more into it tomorrow. Weather permitting....

not convinced you have a correct sensor.
what fault codes are you getting now?
what was the link to the fleabay sensor
