Hi all,

I want to have a few small jobs done on my freelander and I'm keen to find out if there are any independent garages near Dudley (Black Country) or Birmingham. Failing that, perhaps an experienced forum member who has the tools and would like to earn some extra post christmas cash would like to get in touch.

What do I need doing...?

1) VCU check. I think it's probably ok but I haven't got the tools etc so I'd be happy to pay someone to check it for me.
2) Auto transmission oil check and top up if required
3) A general look underneath to check the condition of CV joints etc
4) Perhaps an oil and filter change too while it's being looked at.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Andy.

for the vcu i think alot of members have used bell engineering who are in bewdley if i remember correctly so not too far away...

These guys are VERY highly recommended and I doubt very much if they would mis-diagnose anything.

What marky didn't add is that Bell Engineering offer a FREE vcu, ird, and diff check. See there website.

Oil and filter change is pretty competitively priced at Kwikfit, I'm told, surprisingly.

Thanks for this - I wouldn't trust kwik fit with anything anymore to be honest - Why?? I took an audi A4 to them for an oil and filter change once. They dropped the auto transmission fluid instead, replaced it with about a third of the quantity that had been lost and left me to drive home with a gearbox that was snatching between every gear! What is more, I'm certain that had I not been there watching them do the job they'd probably have denied all knowledge of it and claimed that the gearbox had spontaneously developed a fault.

Andy.

Thanks for all the info guys. Unfortunately doing any work at all on my car is a nightmare (damned sloping driveway).

Happy to check vcu for free at our premises, day or night.

Bell Engineering

Thanks... Is booking needed? and is it something that I can hang around for or do I need to get someone to drive down with me?

Andy.

Nah we can check it while you wait, and even if its gone we can change it there and then aswell, you just need to give us a few days notice if you plan on wanting to change while you are there (if it is gone) to ensure I keep on for you. If you do decide you want to do it that way but your vcu checks out ok, we obviously won't change it and there will still be no charge.,
