Hi everyone,

I don't usually post in here but my P38 is in the garage for the next few days so I have been lent a petrol 1.8 Freelander as a courtesy car. My specialist who looks after my P38 has only just got this Freelander so hasn't done that much to it yet except for a basic service or whatever.

Anyway, the A/C doesn't work and as I have to drive this for the next few days are there any simple things that I can check out?? I know its got gas in the system as I quickly pressed on the valve on the thick hose and a bit of gas came out so thats ok I guess.

When you press the A/C button there's no click and nothing sounds like its engaging so I dunno, are there any fuses/relays I can check?? I tried checking the connection to the compressor but the exhaust manifold is in the way. Do these get dodgy connectins at the compressor like on the diesel P38's??

I don't usually make a habit of repairing my specialists cars but with the heat we have at the moment Im prepared to do a little bit of repairing to get some cold air out of the thing!

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

-Wills :)

If they are not run regularly I believe the seals dry up. I read somewhere that they should be run once a month to prevent this. Freelander ac 's aren't very robust, much like the rest of the vehicle... mine gave up years ago as did I...

When you push the button for the A/C, you have to turn on the fan as well, when you do this the light should come on the A/C button. I have also found that you have to turn the direction control all the way to the left to get the most out out of the system. I hope this helps.

Tried all that but no luck, Ive resigned myself to driving around with the window down and humming to myself as the radio is also shagged I found out this afternoon... :(

just because some comes out dint mean you have enough pressure to activate the compressor clutch. get it checked or buy a diy topup kit and do it yerself. get one with the proper gauge fitted in the hose and not a cheapy hand held gauge thing.
