98 Land rover Freelander 2.0 diesel engine light on, blowing blue smoke when cold

have given up on trying to sort the problem myself, am taking it to landrover! i called the up and they said a scan will cost me $132 and that if the car is still allowing me to drive it then it is fine to drive- but do not drive it like a race car....
