Hi

Hope someone can help out. Got a strange problem where under light braking
(to a stop) the pedal will suddenly dip and the brakes come on fully. Very
dangerous in slow moving traffic as its like doing an emergency stop!

Local garage checked the brakes and cleaned out dust etc and said they
couldn;t dinf any case but it still does it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

On a 92, the first thing I would think of is a bad flex hose going into
a bubble under pressure. There is one at each front wheel and one for
the two back wheels.

Second I would think of a bad master cylinder. When they fail
internally, it is usually more noticeable under light pressure than
hard. Does the brake pedal sink on you at a stop?

You do have a combination or proportioning valve, but when it gets out
of balance, the brake warning light is supposed to come on.

If you have ABS, then someone else would have to comment on their
problems as I know nothing about them.

Thanks Mike

Yes I have ABS and again, yes, the pedal does sink under light pressure.

Cheers

Does it pull from the left or right when braking? also does it lock up any
of the wheels? could possibly be a brake calliper that's not letting go,
or leaking fluid. Go to another brake repairer for a second opinion, and
when you have found the answer, go back to the first guy that found nothing
and tell him what an idiot he is.

I'm going to have a look myself today, I don't think its a caliper problem
as it brakes straight but until I jet wash the mud out and have a good poke
around I can't tell for sure.

I'll stick it up on some blocks and have a day playing at being a mechanic.

Hope you find something, (hopefully minor) gets scary when there is
nothing to see, especially when it comes to brake systems.

Good Luck
