Hi, I've got a defender 90, had it a month or so now and people keep finding it hard to get into so decided to buy some side steps for it.

I think I want ones which run the length of the side rather than just a small step.

I've seen some 90s with a single really thick tube slightly bent at either end which I think looks really good but can't seem to find the, for sale anywhere. If I could show you a photo I would but I can't find one either.

Does anyone know what I mean? And know where to get a set? Preferably in black with black checker plate or rubber on top! Or even just has a picture of them

Thanks very much,
Maxw

just google tubular side step, theres loads of styles out there.

Personally, Im looking for some with a flat top for my 110, the round ones just look like they might be slippy when wet

this type

to add, I do like the look of the tree sliders, but not sure they gain anything from an access point of view, ie they are still at sill height.

I just cut a set off my 90, supposed to be bolted on but the previous owner had welded them on,they do bend quite easily thou once they take a knock hence the reson for getting rid of mine and fitting rock sliders with side tubes, quite a step to get in now but I do have a lift as well, although my three year old lad has no probs climbing them to get in:D

I'm sure I dont want them, I'm just after a step I think!

Yeah, from the picture I'm not sure on that type, I think I want a more rounded type, but most of the ones pictured have a 90 degree rounded angle at the end which I dont like, I want to be able to see the end, not for it to be bent right under.

I was wondering about how sturdy they all would be and if they'd need extra supports putting in. Hopefully I wont need to have the ones I get welded! I'm not getting them for protection at all, if I start doing serious offroading i'd get rock/tree sliders and take these off.

yep been looking and come across:
Genuine Land Rover Defender 90 Side Steps Black Chequer Plate | eBay

Do people think these will be ok? just looked on rimmer bros - generally expensive I know - and they're £400+ for the same product code, so I wonder if they're genuine.

Dad has those ones fitted to his 90 and they seem to do the job. They certainly aren't slippy in the wet and he's not managed to bend them yet, although he is very careful at playdays etc.

Arc- I hadn't noticed they were 2003 onwards, think I may take a chance and fabricate something up if it won't fit.

Borris - looks a very nice landy that! hopefully what mine will look like but with a hard top and black checker plate. Thanks for posting, has made me decide to get these sidesteps.

Thanks

those look ok, theres some I have seen where the chequer is also wrapped around the tube, that made me wonder about slippyness, rather than the flat topped ones.

Thanks Max, it's had a very extensive rebuild by the previous owner...we are just planning an engine upgrade at the moment, 4.0l is too small apparently

Good luck with yours, post lots of pics as you go, we likes pictures here :D

Sounds a bit serious! mines just a 300TDi but had a galvanised chassis put on and getting everything sorted on it. I'll put up some pictures when I've got all the wheels on, as got different wheels on the back to the front and it doesn't look good!

Hi Max,

These are the ones I have. Picked them up at from paddocks for about £120. They did originally have silver checkerplate, but that didn't match, so I sprayed them black.

Have to say that they don't add much in terms of ease getting in and out, as they are so close to the body.

They look good, but do look a bit close to the body, if I can't afford the other ones I'll probably get them, paddocks is only 5 mins from me so I'm there all the time.

Love the simplicity of your truck, are they factory tinted windows or did you do them yourself? Wanting to do mine but they look tricky where the windows like overlap!
