Hello boys

The usual suspects - doc, zen etc - will be aware
that we commissioned a 5.4 phantom carb
engine from V8D in Lincolnshire

Instruction was to build for max torque.

Well the engine is ready and the pulls are done

This monster makes 346bhp at 5600 - and
380 lbs/ft of twist at 3500 with a very flat curve
300lbs at 2000 rpm!!!

The cam they designed is so grunty at low revs
They had to use a 600 edelbrock to give it enough fuel - first time ever he says

As soon as I get the sheets I will post them

Ye gods! 5.4 from a RV8 block  How did they engineer that capacity when LR suffered liner movement when they bored it out to just 94mm. Obviously it's been stroked as well, but there must be limits.

It was done by applying lots of these

£££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

And some skill of course!

Though curoius as where the crank was sourced
Ie bespoke or from buick??former i guess,
Was it using standard block or leyland 4.4from austrailia?

Bit of a noob here. Had a v8 RRC with efi back in the 90s, but went Japanese for a few years ending with an old skyline gtr running big power.

Now I have a carburettored 4 litre v8 engined 110 with tubular headers, not even driven it yet due to chassis work underway (new galv chassis).

My engine's not new, I am hoping to get a few years out of it, but with the galv chassis I would not want to change engine mounts etc. So my question is, what in the OP tells us its an RV8?

Good point, I missed that one but then didn't TVR rebuild RV8's to 5 litres

Here is the important bit

That's quite easy... If you'd read the title of the post it tells you... If you looked up what a 5.4 phantom is then you'll eventually find this:

V8 Developments - 5.4 Litre Phantom Engine

Which also tells you that V8 Developments are Rover V8 specialists.

So it wasn't that difficult to work out that it this is a Rover V8 - albeit bored and stroked to 5.4L

That's impressive. Similar price to the rpi ultimate spec. Good to see some serious options for the carburettored rv8. Can't wait to drive mine. It's a 9.35:1 Chimera engine number. Won't be near as powerful as this Phantom job but I have done "fast" and now I am just looking for a serious gurgling 110 that keeps up with the traffic nicely.

its still alot of £ for the power...

i know customer wants the rv8, but one can get much more for much less..

ie i could build you a 750hp engine for less than £3k..and it would be totally reliable jap based...mine is 400hp and cost 1/Nth of above..

but it wouldnt have the USA v8 burble though...mine has the v8 burble, but its not the same.. the engine is just too refined..though above 5k it sounds like F1 engine,( nice!)..which it is based on..so not surprising really..

BUT griffs is customer car...no expense spared..so 7k on an engine is feck all!!(outa 200k!!!!)

a 200k customer IS ALWAYS RIGHT!!..

750bhp! Thats the sort of nunbers i used to talk with my skyline friends but it was not that cheap to do reliably. Bigger turbos, programmable engine management, bigger intercooler, tubular manifolds, all sorts added up to way more than £3.

As a customer I can see logic in paying more for a rover v8 as we have to pay labour. A ĺike for like swap there is no messing about with cutting the chassis and welding new engine mounts and adapting bellhousing and so on which for a customer can be costly.

toyota based.....i not including labour...so i suppose that makes big difference...

Choppy cam in a RV8 and you get close, my 3.5 has a good crackle now

One of my mates has a 920 HP skyline on pump gas and low boost, well over 1000 full wack. The block pistons heads etc came to £17k then theres everything else. Goes sideways at take off :p

Me and another mate are aiming for 400 HP RV8 for his RRC some seroius balancing and £££ s involved but he wants RV8

Im happy ATM with my 3.9 but megasquirt is going to make a serious difference :)
