Hi Guys

Has anybody upgraded the performance of their Range Rover specifically the 4.6 V8?,

Really interested in finding out what you have had done? and whether have you noticed any significant differences ?

I have so far upgraded the air filter to a K&N variant and had a complete mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust with sports cats fitted, but after owning a few quick cars in the past, and the acceleration seems really, really lacking especially when you consider its a 4.6 V8 !!

Any suggestions? :(

I own a 4.6 p38 and it seems ok. I had a 3.0 v6 x-type sport before. But the funny thing is i took it to the garage on thursday there and when i got it back the mechanic said 'did you know this things been chipped'? I had no idea. He said my rangey was quicker than any other 4.6 p38 he'd driven. I was rather pleased to hear this but it does feel slow compared to previous cars but it is a big lump of a car. The previous owner of mine had work done a rpi engineering. They specialize in performance etc i think.

Chevy LS1. Unless you want to go the supercharger route, but would think you would need to top hat the liners before you did that so probably the Chevy is the cheapest option in the long run.

It may be a 4.6, but it's only got around 220-230bhp. Not much for a car that weighs over 2 tonnes. You get roughly 100bhp per tonne. It's about standard for any family car. You can get a kit that will change it to a 5.0 and get it chipped as well. Although it is a big engine, it's been underpowered to give you more torque. Torque in a big 4x4 is more desirable than a lot of power. Too much power and you just spin the wheels. Not good when you're stuck in a ditch.

Hi I'm in the process of tuning my 4.6, you can do alot to these engines. Rpi, V8 Developements, and JE engineering can help with camshaft choice and all engine mods. I am starting with some basic stuff, check the ignition is at its best, upgrade to bosch injectors, get a mark adams chip upgrade, then get heads gas flowed to increase volumetric efficiency, there are kits for larger inlet trumpets etc etc. All depends on how much you want to spend.

Just had the drivers seat out to repair the heating element, ****!! how heavy.

Moral of the story, bin the interior and you should find a marked improvement. ha ha :D

You have to remember its a 2 and a quarter 4x4 and will never be a quick and agile as a smaller high powered car (to many working parts) unless you spend a small fortune tuning it up and then spend a even bigger fortune uprating the brakes to stop the thing.

When i got mine there was a hole in the service history. I emailed JE engineering, the sticker on my tailgate, and asked them if they had ever done any work on her. Ive attached the reply i got below:

"Thank you for your email. We carried out a considerable amount of work to this vehicle during the period November 2005 to April 2007. A lot of the work was routine, but I think the item which would be of most interest to you would be the work which we carried out in August 2006 which was to prepare and fit JE sports cylinder heads and manifolds. We also fitted an ITG Maxogen air inlet system. We removed and had the injectors professionally cleaned and, at the same time, we upgraded the LPG system to a Tartarini SGI (sequential gas injection system). The total cost of the work on that occasion was just over £5,000."

Im well shocked and also pleased.
