Has anyone replaced their 4.0 with a 4.6 & if so did the Motronic ECU need re-programming or replacing?
I know some NAS market D2's were 4.6's

According to some because it's an adaptive system the unit will just compensate to the new engine but I have my doubts as the base adaptive 'tune' would be set up for a 4.0...

When my 4.0 expires I would be looking to replace it with a stage 2 4.6 for some extra grunt...

The Thor engine ECU has both Tunes in the memory. See RAVE.

As it is only the crankshaft and con-rods that are different, it is not impossible, but your insurers might express an interest.

I think that you'll find that all the injection is common to both engines, but I'll have a look on Microcat when I get a mo.

Peter

EDIT: RR VIN WA410482 onwards uses ERR6600 injectors, same as the Thor Disco 4.0.

'A single ECM is used for the control of the existing 4.0 litre engine and the new 4.6 litre engine introduced with 03
model year vehicles for the NAS market only. The ECM contains the tunes for both engines variants. When the ECM
is replaced, TestBook/T4 must be used to select the correct tune to match the engine fitment.'

....should have read carefully the first page on V8 engine management:doh:

Something else the BBS Faultmate cannot do yet is to programme the Motronic M 5.2.1 so I would have to find someone with T4 or an autologic to select the correct tune...

Disco 2 V8 5-speed +LPG.....

I see you have exactly the same as I Peter !!

Not many V8 manual D2's about, mine's a 2000, don't know if any manuals were made after the facelift?

Fitted with Zavoli LPG, has been trouble free for 3 years until now after sorting some issues with manifold air leaks, duff ignition leads & replacing head gaskets for the composite type.
Just replaced both coil packs to sort out misfiring fault & at the moment busy tracing ACE fault (looks like pressure transducer) plus an annoying tendency to hang onto revs through the gears at above 30 mph, still in the dark on that one though even with Faultmate.....

P.S Just had a look at your old engine pages, excellent stuff do you recognise the big old lump in my Avatar pic BTW?? ;)
