at the moment i have 235 85 16 insa turbo special tracks, which i feel are far to small for my off roader. i would like to fit 33 12.5 15s on it, but i have been told that if i put them on then i will start getting through diffs every time i off road it, (due to the power from my engine and the big nobbles on the tyres) i have 24 spline half shafts and a 4 pin diff as far as i know.

so neyws is that true, if i fit 33s will i start breaking diffs every week?

thanx for replying, (half shafts) do u mean ill be getting through half shafts every week? and not diffs?

Not necessarily.

What really fecks people up is that a free-spinning wheel spins very fast, then they get grip and the wheel has to slow down quickly .. with bigger wheels/tyres this creates large torques back through the transmission and breaks stuff .. it's not the tyres that's the problem so much as the techniques used. If you don't spin wheels a lot then I'd say there's little problem ... if you do let your wheels spin up and rooster tail the mud and ****e then you're very likely to break stuff.

As fanatic said it's mostly half-shafts that go, but diffs can go too .. I'd suggest it might be worth at least getting the diff pegged for tyres of 33 or more diameter and consider beefed up halfshafts and drive plates, though this can simply shift the problem further down the transmission and it's then the transfer box that gets the shock loads .. ;)

Or just drive with better technique and learn to use momentum and finesse rather than outright grip and power ... ;)

:nothingtoadd:
but
from experience the bigger the wheels the more likely half shafts will go, mate of mine had uprated gkn ones for series.
but
Ashcroft Transmissions example and a pegged diff if your intending seriously beasting it
