Avice needed please. i brought a 300tdi and revs rough at 1500-2000 revs when cold and gives a rummble feel inside the car and blows out smoke.
i have serviced the engine, new lift pump and new glows plugs- 2 middle ones was wet with black oil?

egr valve blanked off ,but still in place. couldn't cap manifold end as nuts are in solid.

would it sniff its own oil due to the short journeys?

Not usually but it may be a case of its leaking until it warms up and things expand, outside chance but an easy check to do. Have you compression tested the engine? May be worth a shot. Your getting oil in from cold somehow, maybe it's just seals, maybe it's a bit more...

Would suggest the turbo seals leaking until warmed up, it will warm very quickly being the turbo and if the seals are only just leaking it might not be enough oil to fuly run away. Check spindle for excess play whilst there

Not had the car for long either, i got it from a dealer and he aint bothered as it was sold as seen he said. No not had a compression test yet due to work commitments and time, will book it in next week while im off. Think i will take all the breather pipes off and give them a clean. when i blanked the egr valve there was sludge/gunk in the pipes.

when i blanked the egr valve i left the egr valve in situ as the nuts were solid on manifold. i have left the electric plug in and vacuum pipe in place. should i remove them?

I will do that first thing in the morning. Thank you

How long have you had it and how much did you pay? There is no such thing as 'sold as seen' in the trade, the vehicle has to be relative to its price, age and condition i.e. if its sold for £300 then yeah not much comeback same as if it was sold for £2000 (I'm in the trade and have had this before).

As for EGR, that is how I done my 300tdi, you can unplug it, if the blanking plate is between EGR and turbo pipe it is still blanking.

10 days-I paid 1200 for it, its a 1997 R reg with 10mths mot on it and 6mth tax. I brought it because the body is clean and the chassis and floor etc are solid. All the others were rot boxes and defenders are out my price range at the minute. I have just undersealed it all with hammerite waxoyl.

Your on the limits really, you could argue it but it could go either way with trading standards, it's a shame the garage doesn't want anything to do with it, if it was a car I sold I would at the very least look into it.

It's not the end of the world even if the engines knackered, 300's are easy to be ahold of and easy to fit yourself although I very much doubt that you will need to go that far!

Hi take the boost diaphragm out and check for holes rips ! Sounds like a boost related problem !! May not be but well worth a look also check vacuum hoses etc for leaks and splits .
Could check breather from rocker cover also , then it's valve clearances etc ,

Im going to be thick and ask where do i check the boost diaphragm?

been out in it today probably run like poo tomorrow and when it does all them things are going to be checked in one go

took all pipes off and from the pipe from the breather filter box round to the air intake pipe has loads of oil in there, is this normal? no major play on the spindal for turbo, feels about 1mm with fingers. would the oil in the pipe cause the blue smoke

well it turned out the garage who i brought it off didn't do the cam belt properly. the timing was out by 180 degrees apparently and they never timed the fuel pump either.
wasted a few pounds on the way. but now runs a dream with no issues.
