Agh, but being human and prone to error, I would like a thermostatic switch in the coolant to do the turning on for me.

I fitted leccy fans to both my series landys, it was a pretty standard thing to do as they always ran cool, I used kenlowe units then but never liked the stat fitting they used.

You could rig up any of the typical thermo switches used on cars with leccy fans.

The reason the leccy fan I have here is NOT fitted to my TD5 Disco is exactly the same as you say - the stat fittings are HORRIBLE.
