hi can any one tell me if a 300 tdi 5 speed gearbox will fit a 200 tdi cos i will get funny looks / abuse crawling under other peoples motors to find out.

lt77 to R380 - best to do a search - been covered many times - basically no, coz it involves too much work - but then anything is possible.

The 200 and 300 Tdi Discovery gearboxs are completely interchangeable. I have done conversions in both directions (if you see what I mean). There is some swapping of bits, but nothing that can't be done with just spanners.

I thought that the R380 had a longer tail and yu had to swap props n stuff as well?

Only differences that I can think of are between Tdi and V8 gearboxes having longer/shorter input shaft and bell housings. Also Disco and Def boxes are different flavours.
You do have to swap like for like; Disco Tdi for Disco Tdi

there is a kit available to convert lt77 to r380 however why would ya?

R380 takes more torque (380 Nm if memory serves) but main to layshaft spacing remains the same as the LT77 (77mm if memory servers)
In short there are some advantages. Not to mention likely lower mileage of replacement units.

thank you all that widens my seach for rep. gearbox as theres a number of 300tdi`s in scrap yards round herebut very few 200`s .silly as it sounds it seems if you own an older disco your more likly to fix it yourself thanks again
