Currently have problems with a land rover discovery 300tdi, when turning the key all the dash lights aluminate as they should do but when turning the key to start the truck nothing happens. The engine doesn't crank or nothing. The truck can be bump started but not started off the key it has a new starter motor

Any help would be great just want the get it started to go out and play

put a wire from battery pos+ to the smallest wire on back of starter. if it starts your feed is duff if it doesnt your starters duff or the supply (big cable) isnt supplying

watch your fingers and dont have it in gear or youll either run yourself over or be chasing it down the road

It could be your immobiliser not letting it start. Mine does it occasionally so I lock the car up then unlock again and it normally does the trick.

Ye I've had that with imobaliser before locked it back up tried again and it was ok. There isn't a fuse anywhere that could have gone is there might be worth a look

Checked the feed and the starter engages but nothing else happens what's the best way to check if its getting a supply

Sounds like if starter motor is turning when you put a positive feed to it its probably a dodgey wire to the starter. What you could try and do is switch your ignition lights on and run the positive to the starter again so it spins and see if it starts

If the starter is turning the engine over but not starting it could be glow plugs or injection timing also.

Sometimes without the glow plugs it doesn't get hot enough to start. And also if for some reason your timing has skipped a tooth or is out slightly it can cause this same issue tho normally if it was your timing when you bump start it the car wouldn't be running right, underpowered or smoking a lot etc. d check your glow plugs first. Pull them out and see how they look. Also test for 12v at them all.

Cheers mark

The starter isn't turning the engine over all it is doing it engaging to the fly wheel and nothing else

I put a battery booster on to make sure it had enough power

I've put a supply straight from battery to the starter to check of there is supply getting to it but that makes no difference

Could it just be a dodgey starter motor

I put a cable from the starter motor to the battery negative to try earth it and see if the starters earth was **** but it made no difference
