Got a 300 tdi r380 box with 230K miles.
The box is quiet and has no syncomesh problems but would never change from 5th to 4th but if I keep the clutch in I can go from 5th to 3rd and then 4th.

It always changed from 3rd to 4th with no problems but now the bias spring seems to be away on the 1st - 2nd side and it is hard to change from 3rd to 4th.

Sorry to be a bit long winded but is this a bias spring / plate problem or could there also be a selector problem as well or worse.
:confused::(

probably the bias plate bust I think. Happened to my last one, tricky to find them gears! You can get reinforced ones to stop em breaking but I can't remember where from. Easy to change, just a bit fiddly removing everything first and there are rivets to drill out. I reckon best way forward afterwards is to use self tappers instead of new rivets.

Thanks,

I have removed the centre consul and rivets before to fix broken wires to reversing light switch and used aircraft anchor nuts instead of rivets. Will give it a look this week hopefully. Going to have to replace the clutch soon and not looking forward to that.
Will make a new bias plate if I have to as I work in an engineering training centre in an aircraft firm.
