300 tdi head gasket

Just thought i would share a pic of the head gasket I remove on Saturday afternoon, it only took me 6 hours to do which I thought was quite good as it's the first I have done. Sounds a lot better now too Funny thing was it still ran ok!!!

was there 2 dowels in block ?that one looks like bad fitting

no4 i would think and thats knackered lol

@jamesmartin, yes it had both dowels fitted and has been ok in the 3 years i've had it with no coolant loss etc.
@drewster, It was indeed no4 and sounded like a pig lol

it is so strange that
why dose it allways have to no 4 like you my 300 did the same
sounded more lite a traktor than it normaly did lol

no 4 is less cooled than the other 3 ,but that stiill is an unusal fail

That does make sense seeing how close it is to the bulkhead, I did think it was the tappets needing adjusting when it started to blow a few weeks ago but it got quite loud so after investigating found it blowing out the back and the felt the crack!! I have felt some slight hesitation when driving at around 50 for a while now which now seems to have disappeared so i'm hoping this was the cause.
