Disco 2 3 amigos, time for SVS mod?

Hi all
I know it has discussed many times, and probably the answer is already given, but just before I start removing SVS and start wiring mod, is there any other thing I should check before?
The error code read by Nanocom and it is "23-05 shuttle valve switch electrical fail (intermittent 023times)".
I have this car for about 6 years now and I got amigos from the beginning but only 2-3 times a year and every time after restart they gone. In the recent weeks this failure got quite frequent. Now I got error almost every time after a few kms.
So is it clearly SVS mod or should I check something else before?

In your shoes I'd do the mod.
I had to do it with mine a while back and did put some pics up of the tool I put together to get the blessed 3 allenheaded bolts out.

was it difficult to get the bolts out? Have you removed the whole ABS block or just lifted as much as the hoses allows?

It is about 99% clear cos it can be 1% wiring issue as well but the smart move is to do the mod first then if the fault is still there you can start a circuit troubleshooting which can be a nightmare. Good luck

Thanks, what about using this modified SVS sold on ebay? New switch set which already prewired. Plug and play...
Any experience with this?

You can, with a little bit of fiddling around, lift the block just enough to get to the bolts. The pipes need unclipping from the bulkhead and in the process you may well break bits of the plastic clips so give em a spray with some easing fluid first. It helps to have a small mirror, some bits of wood to keep the block raised and the tool I made consisted of a flat ratchet spanner, an allen key bit that fits into the round end of it and a bit of tape on the bit to stop it falling out! The bolts are stiff to start off and then continue stiff, which is why a ratchet tool is a big help. Doing the electrical rework is a piece of pistachio so no need to buy anything more than a replacement bit, then do the mod on that.

IMO that "kit' is a bad joke and it's not "plug and play" at all cos you have to cut the YG wire and attach a two pin female plug to it(while only one contact is needed) and introduce another plug into the earth path which is silly, it's enough to prolonge the existing wires of the switch pack and connect one directly to earth and the other to the YG wire which goes to the SLABS ECU( no polarity so it doesnt matter which wire is earth) ... i saw that "kit" on ebay and as i know what's about i strongly discourage you to pay for it, you can see in it's description :
"You will need to back out some pins in the original connector etc but this is very easy and I will send full instructions with the kit." ....that's B0ll0x :mad:


just follow the attached file with the addendum to not use any connector just connect directly the wires... i simply can't understand why introduce a connector into a circuit when it's not needed knowing that any connector can be a point of bad contact in time .... see this: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-ro...on-b-graphic-explanation.272156/#post-3310233

I took mine off, tested the switches, they were fubar, had to put it back on temporarily after doing the mod. It lasted about a mile. But at least I had practised taking it off and doing the mod!
Moral is..... don't feck about, get a new one and do it once only!;)

Sorry, you are in the right place but maybe you didnt pay enough attention cos the title is about "3 amigos" and if that puzzles you IMO it's a problem.... i thought that the emoticons i put at the end were enough to show some friendly sarcasm, might be a problem with my sense of humour o_O ... though if you own a D2 and you dont know what's the "svs mod" in a topic about "3 amigos" i'd be inclined to be sarcastic again and tell you to make just a bit of effort and try to learn at least about the most common issues of your vehicle. No offence pls

Disco 2 - SVS mod

Nearly 4 hours and not finished. Soldering to do to finish. What went wrong? An Allen bolt rounded. Had to break up the old switch. Then over 90m to molegrip it out. At least errors are gone

No offence taken, I was just asking the question.

I'm well aware of the 3 amigos issue as they have popped up a few times on my D2, which is why I was interested in this topic, but none of the solutions to my problems have ever involved the SVS, so I have never come across this modification.

I didn't ask what the 3 amigos was. I asked what the SVS mod was. No need to be a d1ck about it.
