2a engine transplant

Hi all, just a quick one to ask;
I got a 2a in bits, currently fitted with a 3.5v8, and I'm wanting to put summat slightly more economical in her (only slightly mind), where would be a good basis to start and what would any of you recommend, not fussed over petrol or diesel, but if it were the latter, it would have to be very eco.
One other thing to add, my budget is rather limited, but I'm not in a rush, so I can just potter along at my lesiure

It runs well but a bit of a bitch to start needs some tlc

you must mean 2.5 td if its difficult to start ,200 tdi is really the best way ,i thought about 2.5 petrol as well as others but 30-35 mpg has got to be a big factor ,also 2oo disco engine £200 ish

Hmm interesting, would I need to start swapping gearboxes too, must admit I've never done owt like this before, just tinkered

std series box will bolt to engine with a few studs removed ,you dont need as many as they have a lot less on tdg to gearbox,i didnt want to loose smoothness and quietness but practically mpg and no tinkering keeping it running spot on

Is it an easy job to do then? Or do you have to butcher the chassis?

What sort o miles it done? What needs doing to it?

It's a 19j engine
Had a turbo, fuel pump and injectors changed ( second hand) not that long before it came off the road cos the gearbox blow up
It also had new cambelt and glow plugs at same time
Haven't got a clue on millage
Think it need the pump and injectors rebuilding and then it should go fine
Didn't burn excessive oil and when it was goin it would pull like a train

I already got 1 v8 to put in as replacement but it's always nice to have a spare

there hard to start red blocks as they never have any compression to heat fuel to start ,but either 2.5 or 200 tdi doesnt require any chassis or mount mods,both will bolt to series g/box both dont have to use intercooler so std rad and frame will do ,both need exhaust making up
