2006 to 2009 headlights Range Rover Vogue - can you get non AFS?

Hi all, I have a problem with the auto levelling on my RR conversion, all lights work and no errors, however the lights won't level up, called a few people and no-one has any idea as it's a conversion, so I'm left to either hodge the lights and find a way to set them and fix them in position :-0

A better option would be to fit lights without the auto levelling lights, but it have no idea if they even exist, I have searched the bay of e with no real joy as no-one lists any with either function.

Does anyone here know if they are available and have any part numbers for them please?

Or even better if anyone out there has any ideas on the lighting issue, they were operating before they were removed from an 06 supercharged, but dropped as soon as they were powered up on mine :-(

are you faclifting a 2002-2004 to a 2006 front ??


if so then i done the same with my 2002 - fitted AFS lights with no issues.

the AFS wont work as its a different BUS system on the later model. but you have to wire one of the pins in the headlight connector so that the AFS ECU is powered and so the headlight beam is kept straight. otherwise the beam will wobble around as the car vibrates

Luckily I had the original plugs as the donor car was a write off, I followed a wiring diagram from powerfuluk and everything is as it should be, all lights work apart from the dip beam on both are down, the two wires connected for the AFS were:

Old plug pin 4 to new plug pin 14
Old plug pin 7 to new plug pin 15

15 is the earth and I am led to believe that the pin 14 is an ignition live?

Hi Lee,

seems like you have wired things correctly.

check with a multimeter that you are getting a 12v switched ignition feed between the old pins 4 and 7.

Thank you very much, I did check that I had a + and - on the two pins that all came back ok, my only concern is that on another wiring diagram for 06 lights the + feed for the adjusting lights was pin 13 so may have to double check it all again.

I hate wiring! Give me a spanner or screwdriver any day!

both of my diagrams both show pin 14 on the new lights to be the +12v feed for the AFS


i love wiring

you should try doing the 2010 conversion !

done both 2006 and 2010 conversions to my L322 lol
had to make my own circuit boards for the lights to function on the 2010 conversion

That's good, well in one way, just left now with a puzzle, the car is being plugged up next Friday to see if any faults show as I had heard that if any sensors for the suspension are faulty it ca affect the light function, so I will wait now and see what happens with that.

I take my hat off to you for a 2010 conversion, think my brain would burst on that one!

Will post back the findings on Friday

Errors won't make any difference as your new lights aren't connected to the data bus system in the car

Your simply dealing with power signals which are not effected by the diagnostics


By the way haven't you got your own diagnostics yet ?!


Love my 2010 conversion, always worried about the complexity of doing it so I done the 2006 conversion instead at first. It wasn't too bad in the end, the 2006 conversion is a breeze in comparison though lol

If I had diagnostics I would seriously break the car!

I'll have to double check the wiring tomorrow I only checked the + on one side so will look at the other as well. If it really is a no go I could always opt for a 2010 conversion lol, that really would be sweaty palms for me!!

Just as a test, would it do any harm if I ran a + from the battery to that no 14 pin, just to see if any life came into the lights? Or could that do more harm?

the lights don't visibly move or anything when the power is applied.

you can just about hear a faint click from inside the lens when you power the pin up.

take the light off and test it off the car. any mishap otherwise could render the car unusable !

Hi, I had another check of all the wiring and still no joy, the lights are still aiming down with no sign of movement, gutted

My fear now is that both lights are after all faulty, though couldn't understand why both would be the same.

I have also read that the motors can get stuck so am tempted to remove one and strip it, though that thought is daunting.

Need someone around Bedfordshire to take a look and would be happy to pay now as I'm lost with it :-(

Is there no manual adjustment on the rear of the light unit ? Usually two screws ...

Hi, there are two plastic hex adjusters but they move the whole assembly and not the "ball" unit. I am pretty sure now that it's a fault on the lights, one thing I did wonder is when they cut the wires taking it all apart if they did it with the battery connected, it may have fried something. I'm going to get hold of another light and see what happens with that.

Hi Lee,

The plastic hex should adjust the lens position

As even with my lights i had to manually adjust them this way once I had fitted them

There are other lights / non AFS versions available

Update: just so no one is put off a conversion by mine the problem was with the motor on the lights, I stripped them down and set them in a central position and all is well. I think that on trying to re-calibrate themselves they got stuck.

A big thanks to 2.0_hippo for your help here, it was a relief just to know my wiring was ok!

if your just fitting the 2006 lights, they are just plug and play

the 2010 led ones are good fun to fit and wire

Hi all - sorry to open this old one up - I id the retrofit of the 2010 lights last summer following a guide on the ffrr forum and had the mot due in the next month so took the car down and they said that the headlight are crosseyed. they tried to adjust with the hex bolt but it moves the whole unit I just need the projectors straightening. Annoyingly the light were off different cars so guessing one was removed when steering was one way and they other when it was the other. they are afs 2010 light but as its a 02 car I connected no wires to the afs pins on the plug - any advise would be great. Thanks
