Hi All, after some suggestions with this please...........as am lost now.

On Saturday developed an issue with the Disco when starting......turned key all normal lights came on as they should (including coil light) waited for it to go out and the car kept turning over but wouldn't fire until after about 6-10 seconds. Once running was then fine.

Monday morning went out to go to work , same starting sequence, coil light went out, turned the key and nothing at all..... no turning over or anything.
Came home from work cleaned connection at back of starter motor and she started. did some running about and then back to scenario one where she kept turning over for 6-10 secs before firing.

Did some research on here and found some very good threads - a common cause and fix is the repair kit for the starter motor - ordered it last night.

Car started fine this morning and most of the day until last thing when i went to start it again and nothing (No turning over at all).

I've checked battery, fuel pump running etc and all good.

Read up on doing the starter repair and so set to working on it.
Only took 10 mins to get starter off , then 15 to repair, 10 to get back on - was very pleased especially when I saw the state of the old contacts I was replacing.

Re-fitted starter motor - car turns over for 2-3 secs before everything then stops, car not firing at all.

I've taken the starter back off - re-cleaned, checked it was all put back together properly and re-fitted - still getting the same issue - turns over 2-3 secs then nothing.

I've now decided to leave it for the night to think of what my next course of action should be......hence my post to you guys :)

Any advice at all would be greatly received..............thank you in advance :)

Doesn't explain turning it over for 6-10 seconds???, fuel pump of filter?? Injector seals??

Hi, Many thanks for the replies -

Yes it stops cranking after 2-3 secs. Sorry my terminology - turning over should read Cranking.

I can hear the fuel pump when i initially turn on the ignition and haven't noticed anything different in that noise. Its just strange that when it had fired previously its run fine.

do you have RAVE?, if not download one cos if you want to DIY you'll need the connector views/pin disposals and i'll tell you what to measure to see if it's management/immobiliser or simple electrical issue

untill then swap relays R2 with R3 in engine bay fusebox... but only these!!!

Hi Sierrafery,

Just downloaded RAVE.

Have swapped R2 and R3 and am still getting the same thing -

ignition lights on, coil goes off, turn key, Cranks 1-2 secs then just all stops. Silly thing to say i know - but its as if there is not enough power. (Battery fine with multimeter)

Off to grab a lift to work now but will try again later.

many thanks

ask somebody to crank it while you measure the voltage on the battery and see where it drops, according tio the result i'll tell you more

Yes indeed ;)

A clear case of me not being able to see exactly what was in front of me!!

New one fitted and started first time.

Thank you very much for your assistance (and patience!) :)
