My TD5 ES has got an odd issue with the heater at the moment.

For some reason it only seems to be blowing hot air when I'm actually moving. If I get into traffic the air goes cold, and heats again as soon as I'm moving off again. Sometimes I turn off the panel and back on again and it works fine.

Any ideas? I'm stumped. And cold. :D

it can also be an early symptom of head gasket failure

If it were me I would be doing the following:

1. Empty out all the old coolant;

2. Replace the thermostat

3. Flush both the rad and the block with a hosepipe;

4. Refill with pink coolant and bleed thoroughly.

Cheers guys. I hadn't had chance to do anything at all, was sitting in an office and after reading a few similar threads was panicking about head gasket so thought I'd ask.

Anyway I got home, checked coolant, it took 2 litres!

All fine now! :)

Yes, but where did it go?........

Quite :D

I filled it, started it, and ran for a while, nothing underneath, completely dry.

Gave it a bit of a run this morning so will recheck shortly

Hello All,
I have a similar problem, no heating when stationary. There is no sign of coolant loss, level remains steady. Also however, I get no cooling from the air con, thinking the system needs re-gassing. Would the two be related?

Thanks
